Sacraments
The Sacraments are our living experience with Christ throughout our lives and they are at the heart of our Catholic life.
Below is some simple information about the celebration of the Sacraments in the Parish and how we prepare for them.
Baptism
“Holy Baptism is the basis of the whole Christian life, the gateway to life in the Spirit and the door which gives access to the other sacraments. Through Baptism we are freed from sin and reborn as sons of God; we become members of Christ, are incorporated into the Church and made sharers in her mission.”
Celebrating Baptism is a chance for all the family to get together, to celebrate and to thank God for the new life which He has given. It is a time to remember that your baby is a part of God’s family as well as part of a human family.
For infants, please speak to Fr John as soon as possible - the best way is to have a word with him after Sunday Mass. There is a short preparation course for parents arranged on a Sunday morning with the parish catechists at 9.30am. Fr John will arrange the date of the Baptism with you once some preparation has taken place. For older children (over 8 years) the process may be a little different, please speak to Fr John.
Adults interested in being Baptised and Confirmed into the Catholic Church should start by coming along to a regular Sunday Mass, and then talking to the parish priest about how they might proceed.

Reconciliation (Confession), Holy Communion & Confirmation
Preparation for First Holy Communion and Reconciliation takes place in the Parish each year, and for Confirmation usually every few years.

Marriage
If you are thinking of celebrating your wedding in the Parish, please make an appointment to see the priest. Six months notice is always required for Marriages to allow adequate preparation for this Sacrament.
Ministry to the Sick
Please inform Fr John or tell the parish office when you or a member of the family is poorly. Fr John can visit to offer support and celebrate the Sacraments. Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion assist the priest in visiting the sick and house-bound in the parish regularly. These visits are arranged through the priest.
